Event Venue Of the Month: Iowa State University Memorial Union

Whether you’re an ISU alum or just a fan or exquisite wedding reception (and ceremony) locations– the MU at ISU more than likely has something that will fit in your tastes!

Jill Pepples, the Catering and Event Director at the MU, is first-class to work with, and exercises the “grace-under-pressure” model that is necessary in the Event Biz.  And, having been in the wedding business for quite some time, the facility also still hosts a staggering number of University dinners, performances, and banquets each and every week.

For receptions, the venue boasts the impressive Durham Great Hall, the Sun Room, and the Oak Room.  Together (with expandable walls) they can host large gatherings (the largest space in Ames) or, singularly, they are perfect for medium size to more intimate affairs.

Ceremonies can also be beautiful when arranged through the MU, as they offer the Campanile Room (which overlooks both the four seasons fountain and the trademark Campanile[in photo–to the left of the Fountain])–or ceremonies underneath the Campanile itself.

The onsite Hotel Memorial Union features hassle-free lodging for guests and VIP’s, and is even within walking distance of the night-life oriented Campustown district, where you will find plenty of options for dining, drinking, and fun!

So–whether its planning your wedding with a hint of ‘Ol ISU in mind, or simply looking for an elegant “turn-of-the-century” designed building, the MU might be what you’re looking for!  With Jill at the helm and the rest of her staff at your service–you are sure to have an event that will be the envy of your friends and family!

Earlier in this issue, we mentioned the Bridal Excytement Fair that occurs twice annually (in October and February) at the Memorial Union–be sure you’re there to see the MU and even take a tour of the Hotel!
